Comments: Leaving the Country

My dad called a few days before the election and said this:

When your messiah gets elected (yes he said that), I'm going to drop my health insurance because he promised he'd pay for it all.

Sigh. My dad annoys the crap out of me. He believes anything spewed by the wingnut radio talking heads, but he refuses to do any research - like reading Obama's health care plan - before opening his rediculous mouth.

Anyway, I said "hey dad, I'm on my way to work and I really don't want to get into this. I'll talk to you later." And then I hung up on him while he was in mid-sentence, which started like this: "you know I'm just teas...." CLICK.

Last week he called. Funny, no talk of politics came up. I think he finally got the message. At least for now.

We just found out earlier this week that my wife shares the same great-great grandfather as Obama through his maternal line (her maiden name was Dunham, as is my wife's family).

Come to find out my father-in-law has known about this for quite a while, but was so embarrassed he wouldn't let us know. I had always thought of him as above that sort of thing, not a wingnut dittohead republican, although the NRA does influence him a lot. He's old and white, and with that often comes that old time prejudice, but this reaction of his not to have any sort of 'hey, check this out!' is very surprising.
