Tomorrow not only marks the beginning of a brand new year, but it also marks what I consider to be this blogs anniversary. I first did a test entry on Dec. 22/01, but only began updating on Jan. 1/02. I went back through tonight re-reading some old entries and I think I'll spend some time tomorrow re-reading more. It's neat to do that once in awhile. I'll probably post a re-cap of the year tomorrow too. That'll be fun, we're thinking each month will begin with ....and I threw up... lol.
As you can tell we stayed in tonight. We don't drink or party and around this city, that doesnt' leave much left to do, so home we are. To be honest, New Year's Eve has never meant much to me anyway. I don't feel any different at 12:01 a.m. than I do at 11:59 p.m. Mom's flight leaves tomorrow at 3:15, so we ran around a bit today doing last minute things before she goes. This last week has been a write off because we were sick, so we were all pretty house bound. I'm still nervous about Daniel getting it, but so far so good.
Well, more thoughts tomorrow...Happy New Year everyone!
Daniel is the only one now who hasn't come down with this bug. I got it 3 a.m. last night. Sigh. I hope I am at full strength by the time, if, he gets it. He's going to need lots of soothing.
Me and Daniel are the only ones uneffected...Mom just headed to bed sick...can I hide now????
late...(and just because everyone else is)
1. What was your biggest accomplishment this year? Successful birth and not driving my hubby completely bonkers (just a little bonkers).
2. What was your biggest disappointment? It's been a long year and I spent half of it sick, it's hard to say what was disappointing. I find fault in lots and complain about everything...that's a tough one. I'd have to say going back to work was the biggest. That just sucked no matter how I looked at it.
3. What do you hope the new year brings? Satisfaction and good health for my family.
4. Will you be making any New Year's resolutions? Not outwardly, but inwardly perhaps. I'd like to start eating better and to try being happier more often instead of finding misery in nothing.
5. What are your plans for New Year's Eve? Well we don't have any plans for NYE, nor any anniversary plans (Jan 5). I had heard a lot of people mention "watching the ball drop", I asked hubby what that was. Oooooo k, so it was new to me. *shrug* Somehow I don't think we'll even be doing that...maybe a movie or two inside where it's safe!
Okay, just when we thought we were home free, Doug comes down with the stomach virus last night. He was up all night visiting the bathroom. He ached, was feverish, got hot flashes, cold shakes, nasty shit it is. He's still trying to get well. He's been hot and cold and in and out of bed all day. I called work and told them what's going around and how many people it's effected already. My co-worker certainly didn't want me to come in, but my boss had other ideas. Today was payroll day. I offered to come get my file and post from home, she offered to drive it out to me and well, he suggested that "I come on in anyway". I hope no one at work gets it. It has the potential to wipe half the staff out in 48 hours should they catch it.
Now Mom and I are sitting around waiting for our turn. Mom flies back on Thursday, so it would really suck if she was to get sick now. Her stomach is starting to feel flippy floppy and I'm getting a slight headache. My head probably hurts just from watching a movie and getting tired, but who knows. We can only hope Daniel doesn't get it. He's still getting over his sore throat/congestion and I can't imagine all that vomiting from an infant.
After we got back from the doctor's office yesterday, I said to Doug that even though the holiday "seemed" okay, if you really looked at it, it sucked this year. There is a whole list of stuff that just sucked ass. I'm not going to list it all out, I mean why bother right? I'm smart enough to know to count my blessings. I also realize there were a hell of a lot more people out there that had a much worse holiday, if one at all.
2004 is just around the corner...I wonder what I'll be thinking about this time next year as I look back over the year. It couldn't possibly top 2003 could it? I hope if nothing else that my mind rests. It's been tired these past few months and it makes me irritable and impatient. I need to relax and enjoy life more. Well, kiddos are hungry, more on 2004 later.
First here's our tree after Santa came! We even had gifts piled under the tree! Nuts.

Yesterday Mom and I cooked a large feast for Doug's family. His Mom, step dad, brother and his girlfriend and his elderly grandmother came for supper. We cleaned the house and rearranged the furniture in the living room so as to make room for everyone. We even removed the dog's crates putting them on the back step. Doug teased me that we'll be looking for ways to rid ourselves of those crates when we discover how much more room we have without them in the living room. He's right, they do take up huge amounts of precious space.
We had all the food layed out on a side table and everyone raved and raved about it all evening. I would have taken pictures yesterday, but unfortunately we left our camera at his Dad's place on Christmas day. I'm pretty sure everyone had a great time and it was our first time hosting a family meal, so I was really glad to have all of Mom's help. She cooked like crazy, cleaned like crazy and suffered all night with back spasms for it. I get after her for doing so much, but she just never listens.
Daniel was at his worst yesterday all day. He hurt and was pretty sick and congested. Fussy little guy. He just wasn't happy at all. Today isn't much better. Mom showed up in our room around 6:30 a.m. tis morning to tell us that all three kids have been throwing up since 3 a.m.! I had heard Cody up once, but he didn't come in to tell me he was sick and their bathroom is on the other side of the house, so I didn't hear anything. We got up to check them, they hadn't spiked any fever, so shy of giving them some tylenol, there wasn't much I could do at that point.
We were worried at first about food poisoning. Mom and I were like "oh my god, imagine, first time cooking for his family and we make everyone sick". hehe. But we are all fine and we called up to Doug's parent's house and they are all fine. By mid morning, Daniel was really bad and the kids had not stopped throwing up, so we called our pediatrician. When the nurse called back, we talked about Daniel...we're going in 9:30 tomorrow morning to get him seen. Then I told her about all three kids. She says "oh my!". Heh. Anyway, it's a stomach bug (viral). They've picked it up from somewhere we've been in the last 24 hours. They'll throw up for up to 24 hours, maybe longer, might get runs etc. It has to run it's course. So, all three of them are wrapped in blankets, making trips to the bathroom every so often and generally pretty sickly.
We figured we picked something up from Doug's dad's place on Christmas Day. Sure enough, we get a call from his step sister (they were supposed to stop in today on their way back to Austin) and all five of them hit sick Christmas night and stayed sick all day yesterday and some of them are still sick today. Doug, Mom and I are pretty worried about getting it ourselves now let alone all of the people we had down yesterday. We exposed them unknowingly. I worry for his grandmother, something like this is devasting to her health if she gets it.
Aside from Daniel being sick and all this other crud now, we truly had a wonderful holiday. I think Mom enjoyed herself. The kids got way too much stuff as usual. I really need to re-think the way we shop next year. They had so many things to open, they truly seemed bored with it near the end. They just wanted to go play with what they had already got. They don't seem appreciative of what they get sometimes. I'm beginning to view them as spoiled. Oh well, this post is longer than intended. I hope everyone had a great holiday. I've been catching up on some blogs and see that many babies have been born this past week! Congrats to you all! What a blessing. I'm still anticipating a few arrivals! Can't wait!
Ahhh, Christmas Eve. We just got home a short while ago. Family function number one down. We went to Doug's brother's place tonight for gift exchange/snacks with that side of the family. Good time was had by all. Tomorrow after our Christmas here at home, we go to Doug's Dad's place for gift exchange and THEN on Boxing Day, we will have his family over for turkey dinner.
Poor little Daniel hit sick last night. He's got the sore throat/cough/nasal congestion thing going on. He didn't sleep much last night, but was surprisingly in good spirits all day today. He stayed a happy trooper tonight too despite the shift in his schedule.
I spoke to the nurse today about his symptoms and what to watch for etc. We got him some triaminic and that seems to help him with the congestion. It's so sad to see a little one want their soother, but cant' breathe with it in. We sat up for quite awhile last night with some steaming water/vicks. We hadn't even taken Daniel anywhere to catch anything, sadly Doug caught something and this time Daniel got it too. We've been lucky in the past.
Mom's been baking her ass off: chocolate macaroons, sugar cookies, shortbread cookies, cherry balls, date squares, marshmallow squares, thumbprint cookies and cinnamon rolls! Can you say ten pounds later? Heh. I took two trays of sweets with us tonight and we still have lots left for Friday's supper! When we got home tonight, we discovered Mom had cleaned up the house. Finished the laundry, folded and all! Scrubbed floors and cleaned the bathroom. What a load lifted off of me! I was dreading it and wasn't sure when I was going to find time to do it! Me love my mommy!
Well Santa comes soon in our house. I hope you all are as blessed as I am. Merry Christmas!
What ever happened to just wrapping a gift, sticking a bow on it from your 0.99/bag of bows, tagging it and giving it? We get so many gifts each year now with lots of foo foo stuff on it. It's pretty and all that, but really all it makes me feel like is that I have to do the same for your gift which means I run out and buy all this foo foo stuff and it hardly ends up ever matching, then in the end I clue in and realize you PAID some department store to do your wrapping for you. Geesh. I liked it better way back then...bow it, tag it, give it.
We started our wrapping tonight finally. We still have stuff on our list unfortunately. We'll be heading out tomorrow in hopes of finding Daniel something cute to wear and maybe even something for me and Sarah. We might do dinner out depending on the timing of everything. I am not looking foward to the traffic. Where we need to go is in the middle of one of the busiest areas of the city on a "normal" day let alone it being the last weekend before Christmas.
We've invited Doug's Mom, step-dad, grandmother for supper on Boxing Day. Pressure is on for a good meal. hehe. I feel like these past two weeks has been nothing but lists upon lists. I just couldn't imagine life without lists. We even keep a large white board calendar in the kitchen that Doug keeps updated continually with appts./to do's/events/grocery lists etc. How many Christmas meals will you be having this season? We'll have two, plus an evening of snacks at Doug's brother's place on Christmas Eve.
One day last week, our printer decided to just not work. We both have tried everything to get it going again, but there it sits, broken. Our computer won't recognize that it's there, seems hardware related. A test shows the printer will print. It really pisses me off. It stalled me out on some ideas I had. Frustrating!
We went to see Return of the King today! Awesome. I can't wait until the extended version comes out. They are such great movies. Doug was discussing some of the differences between the book's version and the movie's. I'm tempted to read the book, but I don't know. It's hard to find time to read anymore, we'll see. Anyway, no spoilers here, just a really great movie!!
I noticed when I came home from work today that my heaping pile of laundry magically disappeared!

Whooo! Go hubby! I wonder what he's hopin' for? *wink* He had me download pictures that he took today of Daniel and the empty laundry baskets was the last picture, so he forced me into updating the sequel to the laundry fiasco!
Here is the beautiful face that I got to miss all day while I worked and shopped.

I shopped like crazy today. Pretty well got their stockings finished. Any cheap, non candy ideas for boys stockings?
You know what? I'm sick to freakin' death of laundry!!! I've been washing clothes all week. Doug just folded two heaping baskets. To top it off, it all had just been washed and folded before the carpet was installed. Here's what I got to see when I opened the door to the laundry room tonight...

Hubby says kids unloaded their rooms. How nice of them eh? Sweet fuck! What you can't see in that shot is the basket full of baby laundry on top of the dryer yet to wash!!! Someone should have warned me about an overload of laundry when you have multiple kids. Notice that nasty sock on the floor? I see someone's been outdoors with no shoes again. Sometimes I feel like just leaving it all, I'm fighting a loosing battle.
However, I did take mental note of something tonight...time laundry folding around Cowboys game or World Tour Gambling shows...Doug will fold it all while watching tv. *this is me taking notes on that one*
Well we got our tree up last night. What a busy weekend we had and Daniel was a teething bear all weekend. Thankfully today he had a much better day and seemed to be back to his happy self! I took a few pictures, but am a little disappointed in how the pictures made our tree look. It's a lot prettier in person. Our tree is nine feet tall and really bushy. I love it. The lawyers I used to work for always got a HUGE tree, something like 15 feet or thereabouts. Nuts.
My theme for the tree is "red". I know, I know, not very creative, but I've always liked red at Christmas time. I hung 19 sets of lights this year. I had always in the past just had red lights, but last year I added 6 large sets of white lights. I string them up the center portion of the tree. Then I add the red lights on the outer portion.
I string red beads and tie on red, white and a few green ribbons. The bows look kind of trashy in the pictures, but they do really look good in person. They set the beads off which you can't see much of in the photos. Frustrating. We have red/silver glass balls (alot) and a box of what I consider my "fav" ornaments. The kids always help hang the two boxes I have of misc. ornaments which include things like their homemade stuff from school, craft show ornaments that I've purchased, hand painted wooden ornaments, angels, birds, gingerbreads, etc. Our tree is a FULL one! I probably should cut back some year because I will run out of room.
Anyway, like I said, the pictures are pretty poor looking, but I'll post em anyway.
Here is one from a distance..

Here is one with out the flash trying to catch the lights, however, it didn't work at all...do these lights look red and white to you?

Here is a closer shot showing how we protect our tree from Dexter's urge to urinate...

Daniel got new PJ's in the mail from his great Uncle and Aunt from Houston (not xmas present, it's actually a birth present, we're still getting them LOL). So, I took a picture tonight of him by the tree in his new PJ's to send to them in the thankyou card! Isn't he such a cute little load? Not sure if I'm talkin' baby or daddy! *wink*

Friday morning around 9 a.m., the carpet installers showed up. Thankfully Daniel and I were at work because it was crazy in here. When I got home, there was a small path (path used loosely) through the living room to the kitchen. Our bathrooms were even blocked with stuff. I had made an appointment for Mom to get her hair done, so I basically came home, changed and headed right back out. *changed because my bambino decided that I should smell differently all day, so earlier that morning at work, he threw up all over the lower half of my dress, during lunch he spit green beans and applesauce all over the front of me and later, still at work, after his bottle he spit up all over my shoulder and office floor. heh.
From front hall to living room...

Other end of living room...

Thankfully, Doug set up Gamecube in Justin's room to keep kiddos amused. I couldn't imagine what they would have done all day. Notice even this room was piled with shit, but also notice a preview peek at our new carpet already installed in this room...

Bathroom 1 blocked off with crap...

From our hall looking through living room to the kitchen...You can really see all the baby powder on our dresser in this shot. lol Looks like I haven't cleaned it in a year...

We brought back McDonald's for supper because there was no way of cooking amongst the mess in here. We even had crap piled out on the back porch and in the shed!! Poor Daniel had been away for most of the day and he was NOT a happy camper. Actually, he hasn't really been himself all week. Might be due to his shots on Tuesday or he's been getting those firey red cheeks, to me indicating teething. It would certainly explain a lot of his crankiness!
Here is Daniel enjoying some down time. Notice those flaming red cheeks?

The pugs of course all day went crazy with strangers in the house. They were gated off in the laundry room all day and they were not happy campers over it! Here's Bella enjoying her down time on Daddy's lap!

The installers finished 8 pm that night. So eleven hours total. Nuts. Even after they left, we still had a bunch of shit to unpack and put back where it belongs and what not. The carpet looks great and they did a fantastic job. I will post after pictures tomorrow sometime when I can dig up some old before shots. Between all of us (read: mostly adults in the house) we cleaned absolutely everything before putting it all away. I think we finally sat down last night just after 11 p.m., which is late for me and Doug. Sigh what a night.
Today Mom, Daniel and I went out to lunch while Doug had the kids out for their routine Saturday run. Then we stopped to get Daniel some more bottles and some shoes and skipped over to Walmart for some odds and ends. By the time we got there, Daniel had had enough! I stopped to feed him and he was borderline okay the rest of the time. Poor little guy, he just got tired of running around. He's not used to it and it's tuckered him out. He's a bit of a homebody I think like his mama and papa are. =)
Anyway, I got everything else that remained sorted and put back tonight. We gotta lug the boxes of books back in from the shed tomorrow and that's it. Back to normal. ha ha, I say that laughing because now we get to ram full steam ahead with Christmas lists, shopping and overspending. But that's another post for another day! Night.
I'm dragging my ass tonight. I'm not sure why I'm so tired. Daniel has done really well after getting his shots yesterday. He's not run a fever nor been real fussy to speak of. I've done nothing to get ready for the carpet installers to come on Friday. I'm anxious for new carpet but completely dreading this whole process. I hope I am not too wiped out afterwards so we can start decorating for Christmas. I've got to get something put up so it'll start feeling more like Christmas around here.
We got our lights put up just after Thanksgiving. We have added some green lights to our bush and Doug has a couple more strands to put up around the east side of the house. Here's a picture of our lights this year, but man it's hard to get a "nice" shot. Everything looks so dark in the pictures and it's really not. The lights are bright and very pretty. I even bought a wreath this year, decorated it and hung it on the front door, but you can't even see it in this picture. Oh well, it's just for a blog filler! *wink*

As you all know, Mom arrived today. Doug picked her up at noon while I tended to an upset baby here at home. Isabella, our youngest pug, is a yappy little thing around company. We normally have to remove her from the room when company is over or use a squirt of water on her to keep her under control. Now of course, Mom spoiled them all summer long and Doug and I wandered if she'd remember Mom...
Well it was very funny... Mom came through the door to the garage like Doug and I always use. They were NOT expecting company through that door at all. Mom knocked knocked on the door, they thought it was Doug. When she opened the door and yelled out "where's my babies". They barked barked barked, then stopped and did a double take. It was crazy, tails wagging and a whole lot of panting going on. Mom headed for their treat cupboard and I'm sure Dexter was thinking "Now this is what I'm talkin' about! Where have YOU been Grammy?!" Bella let Mom pick her up and cuddle her just like before. Very funny how dogs remember. She's not barked at all at Mom, yet if Cody's friend comes over, it's a barking frenzy, even still after being here a ton of times. Heh.
Mom's on the computer, pugs are napping, kids are in bed, Doug's putting around preparing for his test in tomorrow's class... all is well. Welcome home Mom.
I made it through today only shedding a few tears, Daniel on the other hand cried until his face turned three shades of red. =( My poor little baby. It's such a sad thing to take them in there happy as can be knowing what's coming for them. He was smiling and laughing and cooing, just being the sweet little baby that he is, then she sticks him with all those needles and makes him cry. Poor baby, he doesn't know what's happening, all he knows is one minute he's happy, the next minute, something is hurting him. Sad.
He was due for four shots today (they had told me five 2 months ago, as it was, I did some reading up today and discovered for myself that he was only due four!), but only received three of them because they ran out of one, so we get to come back next week and go through all this again!
Anyway, on to more pleasant things...here are his stats at 4 months, 3 weeks...
Weight - 18.8 lbs (97%)
Head - 44.5 cm (95%)
Length - 28" (she tells me "off the chart on that one"!)
We knew he was a long baby because of how many times I've had to update his wardrobe. I can't keep up with his long legs. Size 6-9 months fit his upper body, but are too short on his legs. I just bought him PJ's the other day, size 12 months for one style and 18 months the other style. The 12 months are JUST fitting him because they have feet in them. Long legged load!
So far he's not been too bad considering he had three needles today. He's a bit sore and was a bit sleepy/cranky earlier, but nothing too serious! Doc says he's healthy and doing great!
The Mama is on her way and we'll be leaving in about 45 mins for the dreaded doctor's visit. Weep! More later...
What attracts you to a blog? I mean, do you like reading about relationship stuff, day to day happenings, babies, kids, work stuff, gossip, pictures, blog games/fun stuff or what? What is it?
Two headaches in just a few days. Owie. Today is a stress related one from a long day at work and lack of sleep. I think my dear hubby is trying to get in all the whoopie he can before the Mama comes! LOL! So, I got a few last minute things to tidy up tonight and seeing as I spilled a whole bottle of formula on the floor, I guess I'll scrub too. sigh.
Today at work was very busy and I don't see it letting up any before or after Christmas. Being a bookkeeper with year end just around the corner, this is my busiest time of year, at least up until the audit in March. I see more headaches coming my way over the next few months. Heh, at least I won't be throwing up this year doing it!
The dreaded doctor's appointment is tomorrow. I hope I can control my blatting! Doug will be there with me, so that'll help...I hope. Well I gotta go get cleaning... night!
Mom arrives Tuesday and the carpet installers are coming Friday. I'm not sure which to get ready for first. I feel like I should be boxing stuff up NOW because of Friday, but Doug says not to bother, that we have plenty of time through the week. If I have to scurry, his ass is in the doghouse because I'm listening to HIM! =) I actually know better and I should be getting ready now, but I have no boxes and we don't know where to go to get any. Back home, we just ask around at the local grocery stores for their empty boxes and they gladly hand them off. Doug says people don't usually do that here.
I did some shopping yesterday and got some more placemats and a couple of table cloths. I also got a wreath for the front door. I even dreamt last night that someone stole the damn thing. I got Daniel some PJ's, size 12 mos and 18 mos. Damn it, he better not grow out of those anytime soon! Kids are working on their rooms now and I better run. I have chores screaming at me!

You are 'Silent Night'!
You really enjoy Christmas, and you like your Christmases conventional. For you, Christmas is about family and traditions, and you rather enjoy the rituals of going to church at midnight and turning off the lights before flaming the plum pudding. Although you find Christmas shopping frustrating, you like the excitement of wrapping and hiding presents, and opening a single door on the Advent Calendar each day. You like the traditional carols, and probably teach the children to sing along to them. More than anyone else, you will probably actually have a merry Christmas.
What Christmas Carol are you?

Ever since Daniel was born, I've had this urge and longing to have another baby. Even typing those words makes me feel crazy. I joke around about it a lot with Doug and people at work. I went through so much with that pregnancy that people look at me like I'm nuts for even considering another baby. Doug just says "don't even talk to me about it for AT LEAST a year. LOL He's so funny. Poor guy. Every time my period is late, he holds his breath. *grins*
Deep down I know having another baby is nuts and I'd be wanting one for strictly selfish reasons. I'm sure the desire will pass in time...hopefully! Today at work, a co-worker popped in to my office when I had Daniel in there with me. She says "soooo how would Daniel like to have a little friend in 8 months?" I just chuckled casually "oh I'm sure he'd like it, he always needs friends". I continued about my business getting him ready for school...she says it again. I just kind of smiled stupidly...she says it AGAIN. Then it dawns on me "OH MY GOD YOU'RE PREGNANT!" I'm so stupid sometimes, I scare myself. We had a good laugh. She re-married a few years ago and her and her hubby have been trying since then with no luck. She had just had her first appointment with a new doctor to see about exploratory surgery and during the exam, they discover she's pregnant. Isn't that cool?
However, I'm shamefully envious! I told Doug if he gets right on it, just maybe, we could 'catch up'. LOL. Poor guy, I do love to torment! Seriously though, I'm real happy for her and her husband. Let's keep our fingers crossed all goes well for her.
About an hour after his dose of Tylenol today, Daniel actually got pretty happy for a little while. Thought I'd share some pictures...
Look at this expression! What could he possibly be thinking!

He's sittin' up here looking all chunky like the little load he is!

He and Daddy are talkin' business here!

Not hard to tell he drooled a lot tonight, just look at his undershirt!
Baby Daniel went to sleep last night as per normal, but was up by 11 p.m.. Doug and I had just settled into bed for what I thought was going to be a half decent sleep. I got up and down to put his soother in and after about 30 minutes passed, I realized this child was not going to go back to sleep right away. I got him a bottle to try, nope, big mistake. That just made him more fussy and more awake. Hours passed...he'd fall asleep in my arms, I'd hold him for awhile, put him down - wide awake!
Around two'ish he started running a fever. All of a sudden it dawned on me that he might be teething or sick. DOH. I really thought I had just woken him up too much by offering him a bottle, so I was really cranky and kicking myself in the ass the first part of the night. Well we got the Tylenol and Orajel out. He gets pretty hysterical when we use Orajel. I hate to do it, but at 2 a.m. it's time to cover all our bases. After taking a bottle, he finally dozed for maybe a couple of hours in his bouncy chair.
He was back up at four'ish to eat again, but it was another up and down session. Morning came pretty fast. I stayed home from work with him because he was still running a temp. He and I napped for about an hour around ten o'clock. Because it was month end at work, I decided to venture in with him around 1 p.m. just to tie up some loose ends that I was unable to do at home. I really thought he'd be so tired, he'd just fall asleep in the van. ha ha, big mistake. Poor little guy got so fussy, I just grabbed my stuff and headed home.
We are hoping for an okay night tonight. I gave him some more Tylenol earlier again because of his rising temp and he managed a small nap and woke up hungry. So that was a relief! He's about ready for his bath, so I'm going to run.
