Fine Whine

Work-sensitive enough that I decided to delete it. Sorry.

One of my prof's in graduate school gave me a "gift" grade once. But it really was for a good reason. The course was an indepth study of Beethoven's piano sonatas, and it was all piano performance majors except for me - the lone music theory major who still can't play much piano at all. A good portion of the testing was based on how well we aurally recognized the sonatas. Well, I SUCK at memorizing more than 30 different piano sonatas, all of which are at least 20 minutes long. (not that I didn't try!) But I was excellent at the written portions, and my theory skills helped keep me involved in classroom discussions. My final grade in the class was an A-, but going by tests only I got a fairly ugly C.

Your student doesn't sound like she deserves a gift grade by any means. Your story just brought up that memory for me.
