Work-sensitive enough that I decided to delete it. Sorry.

What a sin! I was wondering if and when that girl would call about her grade being changed. I guess its safe to assume that her friend never bothered to tell her anything. Ha, geez.

Though we (at times) make postures otherwise, I know very few instructors who rejoice at having to give F's. About the most positive emotion involved is grim satisfaction that they fully, even royally, deserved what they got, no matter how vehement their protests otherwise. It's not gloating; it's seeing one's faith in cause and effect verified.

That 50-44-42-29 progression is ... impressive. One or two more exams and she could've crossed zero!

Well, fortunately school isn't everything. :)

Dr. Satan is right. Like others, I sound pretty mean when I vent sometimes, but really, the best way to describe my most positive emotion is such circumstances is grim satisfaction. I am actually pretty embarrassed when someone flunks my class, because I feel at times that I bear some of the responsibility for not making it more accessible somehow. I think I do a pretty good job all in all, but there is always room for improvement.

And yeah, I try to tell students that GPA really doesn't mean all that much years down the line, that school isn't everything. But it is a whole lot easier to hear that when you are making A's.

Sometimes, GPA means everything, and I get the students who claim that a B instead of a C in my class will mean they avoid getting a scholarship cut off or some such. I really hate those.

Those students should have worked harder, though, so don't beat yourself up about it.

I kind of hold the same attitude Humbaba, but I've had that conversation before =)
